Single Review: Tittyshaker by Analog Mutants

Tittyshaker

By

Analog Mutants

It’s always good to have the Analog Mutants here on the blog and this new single is no exception. This is also the first single from the Analog Mutants not to feature DJ Grazzhoppa as there are no cuts on this one. Production comes from DJ Snafu and vocals from Phill Most Chill.

Now, there is a little bit of a story behind the beat and title of this one. I was struggling a little bit with certain aspects of this one, and although I had an idea what this one was all about, I decided to ask Snafu for a little bit more. The sample comes from an obscure genre of music called Titty Shaker. This form of music from the 1950’s is hard to define, as it is mainly instrumental but usually with a single word chorus. An example of this would be the track Tequila by The Champs. This is a form of music that was widely used in the strip joints of Vegas and also in Go-Go dancer shows, hence the genre was coined as Titty Shaker. Snafu found a sample he loved the most and turned it into an instrumental called Tittyshaker and then sent it to PMC who crafted his lyrics around the beat and its title.

Tittyshaker has this upbeat funky vibe which features guitars, keys and horns, this brings an infectious sound that injects movement into your body and brings a huge smile with it. This fits perfectly with PMC’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics that are not only reflect the title but, also serve as fun filled ode to the female form, actually one certain aspect of the female form that many of you reading this, have a certain attraction to!

This one is definitely an energy filled track that is one of those just for fun sounds that everyone enjoys bouncing to, and this is definitely one of the clubs. As it will undoubtedly get everyone up regardless of your take on this.

However, it would be amiss of me not to mention one thing, which is that the genre of Titty Shaker music is built on the objectification of the female form, and this will mean that there are some people that may well not like this for just that reason. Now, like it or not, there has been a lot of the objectification of the female form in some areas of Hip Hop music and other genre’s. I do not support this objectification but, after giving this one several listens, it is obvious that this definitely has that tongue-in-cheek aspect and is not written to promote the objectification of the female form but, more just celebrates one part of the female form that makes a woman, a woman (I say that with the greatest of respect to all Women). Plus, there are more than a few men out there who could quite easily shake their own titties too!

The B-Side to this one is the Tittyshaker (Mod Edit) which takes the track and strips back the vocals to give you a sound that more closely matches the original genre of music leaving just the bare bones of PMC’s chorus as the vocal part.

Overall, Tittyshaker is another banger from the Analog Mutants that with have everyone grooving, proving that you can take any obscure genre of music and turn it into a banger. DJ Snafu does a great job of doing just that here, finding something truly obscure and bringing it into the now. Plus, PMC gives us the kind of infectious lyrics that just match the vibe of the production, both of which flow so well and are choc full of energy, fun and more.

Now, whatever you may think of this one, it is definitely one to have a listen to and make up your own mind to, and you can’t ignore the fact that its infectious vibe will get you moving in some way shape and form.

Tittyshaker is out now on Nobody Buys records, with the vinyl versions selling like hot cakes (They are probably sold out by the time you read this).

I’ll see ya next time,

Steve.

EP Review: Every Line On Point EP by MC Juice Produced by Bankrupt Europeans

Every Line On Point EP

By

MC Juice

Prod by Bankrupt Europeans

It’s been a while since I last had the Bankrupt Europeans here on the Blog but, what a release it is to have them back with. The Every Line On Point EP see’s MC Juice return too and this EP also sees the first 12 inch release for sometime on the Nobody Buys Records label.

The EP features five main tracks which includes a hot new track, All Day which also gets a remix as well, there are two remixes of the track Unseen from 2021, plus a remix of 2020s Where You Go. These are all brand new versions and Digital copies also come with instrumentals and an accapella of Where You Go. As always, cuts are by DJ Grazzhoppa and the cover art comes from Big Crunch.

Without further ado, lets get straight into it…

So, I am going to break with tradition here for this review. Normally I will review a release from top to bottom but, just for this this release, I’m going to treat you to my review of the hot new track and the remix, before I get into the other remixes.

The hot new track here is All Day which has this infectious funk fuelled sound of drums, bass and guitar vibes that gets you moving and grooving from the get-go. Here MC Juice speaks almost matter-of-factly on the things he sees around him and also what it is to be himself, doing what he does in the rap game. There is a hint of that rap braggadocio too as he lays everything on the table in a charismatic way. The track is rounded off with Grazzhoppa getting busy on the cut, what more do you need right…

The All Day (Puffed Hard Remix) brings this real dope drum beat that gets you moving; this is backed by this eclectic mix of sounds from flute to electronic sounds, giving this a vibe that almost has you floating away to the sound but, those electronic elements just about keep you grounded in reality. It adds another depth of feeling to MC Juice’s lyrics, allowing you to really get into what’s being said again. Once we find that it is Grazzhoppa’s cuts that round everything of in style.

Now it’s time for me to tackle those new remixes…

For the Unseen (Chaotic Resonance Remix) the heavy beat is backed with this well, chaotic mix of electronic vibes and so much more, giving this one a head nodding, mind numbing vibe. Grazzhoppa brings us some razor-sharp cuts to proceedings, just to reinforce the solid Hip Hop vibe. I reviewed the original and my opinion of the lyrics of MC Juice still stands “On the streets of this shadowy world MC Juice drops some intense vocals that are unapologetic and seep into your physical body and then reach beyond into your soul. He demonstrates what he does best, taking out emcees and getting to the top of the pile and once there he can just walk away, still at the top, because he has done it all from shadows leaving those emcees in his wake wondering what happened as their opponent came and went in style but, still Unseen”.

The second remix of Unseen comes next, the Unseen (Superior Vibes Remix). My opinion on MC Juice, again does not change here but, the Bankrupt Europeans bring this pounding drum beat backed by this cinematic sound of percussion vibes which give this a very different overall vibe, which teases you into closing your eyes and drifting off in another plane as you allow the vibes and lyrics to sink into your awareness. It is only Grazzhoppa’s cuts that bring you back to the present.

We finish up with the Where You Go (String Theory Remix), where the original had this upbeat almost summer flavour to it, this remix brings this orchestral sound alongside the drum beat, which has been dialled back slightly. This gives the track a whole new sound which seems to seep into every fibre of your body, making you feel it on many levels. MC Juice is on fine form once more as he gives you a fine display of the very essence of rap. This is what its all about with MC Juice drop bars for the fun of it show just how good he truly is. Grazzhoppa also brings the kind of cuts that are the icing of the Hip Hop cake right here.

Ultimately this EP takes me back to a time when it was almost customary that any single release was closely followed by a remix single or remix EP. The Bankrupt Europeans and MC Juice do it in style here by giving us four hot remixes and a hot new track to boot. It also ticks all the right boxes when it comes to a Hip Hop release. Each remix brings a new vibe but, keeps its roots squarely in the Hip Hop sound. Plus, it shows why there is not question as to the pedigree of the skills of MC Juice who gives a solid display of his rap skills and wordplay, mixing up the true essence of rap with those lived experiences and observations of life.

The Every Line On Point EP title, almost does not do the EP, as a whole, justice because every line from MC Juice is totally on point but when you take the production and cuts into account, every line becomes more that just that, it becomes a track, an audible work of art. So, yes, every line is on point but, every track is point too and I kinda want to call it the ‘Everything is On Point’ EP, if you see what I mean.

Overall, this is another solid release from Nobody Buys Records and is the perfect platform to display both the emcee skills of MC Juice, the turntable skills of Grazzhoppa and the Production skills of the Bankrupt Europeans. Sleep on this one at your peril…

My huge thanks to Snafu you giving me the chance to bring you this one and for the pics too.

The Every Line On Point EP is out now. The vinyl copies are all selling quick so don't sleep on them.

On that note, I’ll see you next time.

Steve.

Single Review: Confidence / If Ya Let 'EM (Remix) by Analog Mutants

Confidence / If Ya Let ‘EM (Remix)

By

Analog Mutants

It way back in July 2022 when I last reviewed the single Speak Easy / I’m On Vacation (808 Remix) by the Analog Mutants aka Phill Most Chill (Vocals), DJ Snafu (Production) and DJ Grazzhoppa (Cuts). The follow up to that single is now here Confidence / If Ya Let Em (Remix) and once again, released through the Nobody Buys Records Label.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it…

Confidence is one of those records to stick on when you are looking to get people out their seats. Drums, live sax, and organ notes give this one the energy you need but, mix in with that Grazzhoppa’s knack of making you question where the beat ends and the cuts begin and you begging to see what Phill Most has to say. Confidence has Phill Most Chill speaking on just that subject, it’s all about having the confidence to make even yourself second guess the quality of your work. To be good at what you do, you have to recognise that and have the confidence in yourself to step up and say “Yeah, that’s me and, you know what, I am that good”, and that’s something that every one of the Analog Mutants display here, confidence and quality.

If Ya Let Em (Remix) has more live instrumentation of bass, cello and piano from Snafu and Craig Cloy (Bankrupt Europeans) along side a banging beat, all of which combines to bring a solid head nod, boom bap sound that will have you moving long after tracks over, add to that another stunning performance from Grazzhoppa and this one has you hooked. Here we find Phill Most Chill dropping a tale about following and realising our dreams but, being cautious about the people we surround ourselves with as we walk that path, very often these are the ones who will turn on you when you have made it; the message here is that people can only get to us if we allow them to, always expect the unexpected and never be surprised by anything.

The great thing about the Analog Mutants is that they have this uncanny knack of working together so perfectly. Individually they are all at the top of their games but, together, they have the chemistry to produce the kinda Hip Hop sound that takes the classic golden age sound and polishes it up once more.

These two tracks might have vastly differing messages from Phill Most Chill and have differing sound vibes too but, both have this energy that gets you moving and brings a smile to your face. Here are three guys spanning three countries who know what real Hip Hop is and how to bring the best from each other, in order to create a sound that is fresh, uplifting and pleasure to hear, along with the limited edition 7” vinyl, it’s also a pleasure to behold as well.

Let’s be honest this is the sort of Hip Hop that can bring the sun back to pretty wet summer and get the party jumping from dawn till dusk.

Don’t sleep on this one, it’s out now…

I’m outta here,

See ya…

Steve

Single Review: NBR45-005 Stick Yourself / Death Blow by Dooley-O

Stick Yourself / Death Blow NBR45-005

By

Dooley-O

Produced by Bankrupt Europeans Cuts by DJ Grazzhoppa

This drop marks the tenth release from Nobody Buys Records and this is a pretty impressive line-up too. Legendary rapper, producer, and DJ Dooley-O, from Connecticut USA, steps up to the mic with the Bankrupt Europeans on production and the, pretty much legendary, DJ Grazzhoppa (Gent, Belgium) on the cuts.

It has to be said that, as individuals, their reputations speak for themselves and when you put likes of the calibre of these guys on a track together, you just know something awesome is in the making. The Bankrupt Europeans had been speaking to Dooley-O for some time, even recording a few demos before they all finally got the chance to do it properly back in 2021.

So, let’s not mess around here and just get straight into it…

First up or the A-Side, of you will, is Stick Yourself and here the Bankrupt Europeans bring this heavy beat that has an air of light-heartedness to it and, laced with the cuts from DJ Grazzhoppa throughout, it not only makes you wanna move but, it has you thinking ‘Oh Yeah!’ as soon as it hits ya ears. Dooley-O’s tongue-in-cheek rap style is sharper than Rambo’s knife as he proceeds to encourage you to Stick Yourself or risk being taken out by himself. There is this comedic bravado here that has Dooley-O displaying just how good his rap style is, while between the lines he saying ‘I’m that good, I shouldn’t have to take you out, that’s your job But, If I have to do it, it ain’t gonna be pretty.’

Flipping it to the B-Side for track 2 we have Death Blow, and here DJ Grazzhoppa on the cuts slices into our awareness before the Bankrupt Europeans drop in this heavy pounding beat that injects more adrenaline into your veins and has you bouncing and nodding your head from the get-go. Dooley-O continues the lyrical assault he began in Stick Yourself. Here he delivers a cold and calculated volley of witty punchlines with ease. His plan here is plain and simple, which is to deliver a brutal Death Blow to all those suckers left walking and talking…

Before I give you my overall thoughts on this one, I have to say that everything about this one screams that real Hip Hop vibe into your ears. The Bankrupt Europeans deliver two of the heaviest beats they have given us, which just goes further to solidify their status as two of the dopest producers in the UK right now. They seam to have that Midas touch when it comes to producing those real Hip Hop beats. Everything they do just works so well with whoever they are working with. I could waffle on for ages about the finer points of why but, the real answer is just to listen to the music. I mean the Bankrupt Europeans should be anything but, bankrupt right now. Another stroke of genius was bringing in DJ Grazzhoppa to work his magic on the cuts, and he does just that, what more do I need to say right…

Dooley-O brings this witty and at time sarcastic writing style that has you grinning from ear to ear. Not only that but, his rhyme style really takes you back to that late eighties, early nineties era of Hip Hop where vocals were such a pleasure to listen to and you enjoyed every minute of it. Those were the times that inspired me to do what I do now. I listened intently to what was being said, trying figure out the similes and what was being reflected in the music.

So, overall, this single is a solid banger of a release and already high on my favorite releases of 2023. The enjoyment levels are right up there and way past ten and for some of us there will be a certain amount of nostalgia that comes with it. The Bankrupt Europeans, Dooley-O and DJ Grazzhoppa have come together to create two tracks that will have you bouncing till the cows come home and will also make your ears and the speaker pop. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, this is one of those Hip Hop releases that remind you of the words of the legendary figure of Rakim, “This is how it should be done.”

Stick Yourself / Death Blow is out now, digitally, on Nobody Buys Records with physical copies shipping from mid-February on ltd splatter and black 7” vinyl with stock or Ltd full colour sleeves with artwork by Big Crunch.

Huge thanks to my man DJ Snafu for asking me to review this one and giving me the chance to drop a review featuring the legendary Dooley-O. I'm also humbled to be a part of the extended NBR family, as you can see from the back cover of the picture sleeve (all pics here from DJ Snafu), Thank you my friend.

Anyway, I’m putting my headphones on for another listen,

I’m out,

See Ya.

Single Review: Speak Easy / I'm On Vacation (808 Remix) by Analog Mutants

Speak Easy / I’m on Vacation (808 Remix)

By

Analog Mutants

This tasty little 45 is the first release from the Analog Mutants aka DJ Snafu (Bankrupt Europeans) on Production, Phill Most Chill (Soulman) on vocals and DJ Grazzhoppa on the cuts. Now with an international Hip Hop group of this calibre you might expect something super dope, well join me in checking this out…

The A-Side, is Speak Easy a jazzy funky uplifting vibe of drums and horns from DJ Snafu, all topped of with some classic razor sharp cuts from DJ Grazzhoppa, that really gets you in the mood to move and nod ya head. Enter Phill Most Chill with some slick verses that easily flip between flows and showing a masterful level of being so comfortable in his wordplay. PMC shows that regardless of the lyrical content or beat he can just Speak Easy on any track to such a high level of verbal mastery that other emcee’s out there need to beware…

Flip to the B-Side for I’m on Vacation where DJ Snafu drops some big drums and sonic sounds that give this a modern electro kinda vibe. Add in some classic samples and DJ Grazzhoppa’s cuts that deep, like a bow saw through a tree trunk, and you have the foundations of a summer anthem track, for sure. That vibe is further solidified with PMC gets on the mic switching between flows and really going off on one and not giving it too much thought, because when you’re on vacation it’s all about having a good time, no matter what so, order another round…

What can you say about this one? Simply put these two tracks take that summer feel good feeling vibe to the next level. Everything about this release is solid and crafted to perfection with heart, soul, and a love for good Hip Hop music.

I have to say that the Analog Mutants have got a great vibe going. DJ Snafu brings these wicked uplifting vibes full of energy, DJ Grazzhoppa slices through your awareness with the turntable wizardry you love and as for Phill Most Chill, well the soul man speaks for himself, end of story. This doesn’t just feel like three individuals coming together and making good music, it really feels like they have come together as one, totally on the same page and producing Hip Hop that comes from three hearts working together as one. If this one is not banging out the speakers and rocking the dancefloors this summer then people are gonna be missing out and I, for one, ain’t missing out and I’m not letting you miss out either, get this one, Now…

So, that’s it, I don’t need to say any more as the Analog Mutants can do that now…

On that note,

I’m outta Here, See Ya…

Steve

Single Review: Unseen by MC Juice

Unseen

By

MC Juice

Unseen is the second release by MC Juice on the Nobody Buys Records label. Production comes from the Bankrupt Europeans and cuts from the one and only DJ Grazzhoppa.

Nobody Buys Records (NBR) was formed in by the Bankrupt Europeans back in 2012. This followed eight years of dealing with Industry rule #4080 and signing deals with certain labels from NY and Boston. Once they had the home for their recordings everything kicked off with the Fast Rap EP from Phill Most Chill and releases from AG, MC Rise, PMC, and Craig G were to follow. After a short hiatus between 2015 and 2019 the Bankrupt Europeans returned with the cut n paste anthem ‘Class Dismissed’ which featured scratches from DJ Muzzell and a verse from PMC. Alongside all this the Bankrupt Europeans have a host of production credits to their name including RA The Rugged Man, Chubb Rock, Dooley-O and Dizzy Dustin alongside those already mentioned.

It was in 2020 that the Bankrupt Europeans would finally release their first collaboration with MC Juice on NBR, the highly acclaimed ‘Where You Go’ 45. It was due to the success of this release that 2021 would see NBR drop Unseen…

If anyone is not familiar with MC Juice, then here is very short introduction for you. Out of Chicago, MC Juice is hailed as the GOAT of the freestyle and battle circuits. He is the MC who straight up won a freestyle battle with another freestyle GOAT, Eminem. Now dipping his mic into dropping records he is showing that he cannot only rock rhythms and only rock rhymes but, also rock records…

Unseen hits hard with mix of bass, keyboards and pounding drums, giving this a heavy vibe that lives in the shadows of Hip Hop. This dark and sinister world that is created by the Bankrupt Europeans is the perfect place to be inhabited by MC Juice. On the streets of this shadowy world MC Juice drops some intense vocals that are unapologetic and seep into your physical body and then reach beyond into your soul. He demonstrates what he does best, taking out emcees and getting to the top of the pile and once there he can just walk away, still at the top, because he has done it all from shadows leaving those emcees in his wake wondering what happened as their opponent came and went in style but, still Unseen.

This track has that air of cruising in your car at midnight on the dark empty streets, the volume up loud but, not necessarily to attract attention. Here you might feel you’re being toyed with, you feel the vibe and love the music but, all around you is the devastation perpetrated once more by the one who goes Unseen.

Definitely one to get the pulse pounding Unseen is one of those track you can play anytime but, suits the end of the evening when you want something heavy to wind down to, or when your out in your car and what people to know what you’re listening to. The Bankrupt Europeans create the perfect backdrop that sets you up for MC Juice to take you down and then, just when you thought everything was over DJ Grazzhoppa steps in and finishes you off with some razor-sharp cuts.

Unseen is one for your collection, if there are any physical copies left. If not, then you will just have to settle to being ghosted by the etheric digital version…

On that note, a quick shout and respect to DJ Snafu for sending this over to me, and I’m out…

Peace,

Steve
